Kitchen remodel cost calculator for Newport Beach

Pick the scope, set the size, and get the Newport Beach range for it. Useful before anyone walks the room, and useful again afterwards when you are holding a quote and wondering whether it is reasonable.

A typical Newport Beach kitchen is 140 to 250 square feet. Measure the room, not the whole open-plan space.

What sits behind these numbers

Every range here is built from the Newport Beach market rather than a national average, because the two are a long way apart. Labour rates on this coast are high, the specification expectation is high, and access on the island, the peninsula and the Laguna hillsides adds real hours that a flat inland lot never sees.

These are installed prices covering labour, material and equipment. They exclude appliances, permit fees, association submission costs, and finish work outside the kitchen footprint.

Where the money goes on a full remodel

The proportions are remarkably stable across projects. Cabinetry is 35 to 45 percent. Countertops and backsplash together are 10 to 15 percent. Rough electrical and plumbing are 12 to 20 percent. Flooring, drywall, paint and trim are 10 to 15 percent. Demolition, disposal and protection are 5 to 8 percent. Design, project management and permits make up the rest. Appliances sit outside all of it and are usually owner-supplied.

That distribution is why the cabinetry decision dominates a budget conversation. Moving from semi-custom to full custom on a 24 linear foot kitchen is roughly a $12,000 to $22,000 swing on its own, which is more than the entire countertop line on most projects.

What the payment schedule should look like

California sets the rules for home improvement contracts directly. Business and Professions Code section 7159.5 requires the contract to be in writing with the amount stated in dollars and cents, limits any down payment to $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract amount, whichever is less, and requires that payments after the down payment do not exceed the value of the work performed or material delivered. A schedule of payments tied to identified stages of work is part of the same section. That is the market norm here because it is the statute.

About this calculator

How close is this to a real quote?

It is a planning range built from Newport Beach market pricing for each scope, not a quote. The two things it cannot know are what is behind your walls and how good the access is, and on a pre-1980 house both move a total meaningfully. Expect a real quote to land inside the range on a straightforward house and above it where the electrical service needs upgrading, the supply pipework is original, or the material has to be carried up a flight of stairs.

Why is cabinetry priced by the linear foot?

Because that is how cabinet runs are measured and how the trade quotes them. Count the wall length that carries cabinetry, at both base and wall level, and add the island. A typical Newport Beach kitchen runs 18 to 30 linear feet. The figure covers boxes, doors, drawer boxes, hardware and installation, and it is the single largest line on almost every kitchen budget.

What is deliberately not in these numbers?

Appliances, structural engineering fees, permit fees, association submission costs, and any flooring outside the kitchen footprint. Structural work to remove a wall is its own scope in the list rather than a hidden extra. Appliances are excluded because the spread between a serviceable package and a professional one is larger than the entire rest of some budgets.
