Kitchen remodel cost calculator for Newport Beach
Pick the scope, set the size, and get the Newport Beach range for it. Useful before anyone walks the room, and useful again afterwards when you are holding a quote and wondering whether it is reasonable.
What sits behind these numbers
Every range here is built from the Newport Beach market rather than a national average, because the two are a long way apart. Labour rates on this coast are high, the specification expectation is high, and access on the island, the peninsula and the Laguna hillsides adds real hours that a flat inland lot never sees.
| Scope | Unit | Newport Beach range |
|---|---|---|
| Full remodel, everything out | per sq ft of kitchen | $320 to $900 |
| Semi-custom cabinetry, installed | per linear foot | $350 to $650 |
| Full custom cabinetry, installed | per linear foot | $800 to $1,600 |
| Cabinet refacing | per linear foot | $180 to $400 |
| Engineered quartz, fabricated and set | per sq ft | $70 to $140 |
| Natural stone, fabricated and set | per sq ft | $110 to $300 |
| Backsplash tile, supplied and set | per sq ft | $28 to $70 |
| Island, cabinetry and stone, no services | per island | $6,000 to $14,000 |
| Wall removal with an engineered beam | per opening | $8,000 to $25,000 |
| Kitchen electrical and plumbing rough-in | per kitchen | $6,000 to $18,000 |
| Electrical panel upgrade to 200 amp | per house | $3,000 to $6,500 |
| Structural engineering for a single beam | per engagement | $1,500 to $4,000 |
These are installed prices covering labour, material and equipment. They exclude appliances, permit fees, association submission costs, and finish work outside the kitchen footprint.
Where the money goes on a full remodel
The proportions are remarkably stable across projects. Cabinetry is 35 to 45 percent. Countertops and backsplash together are 10 to 15 percent. Rough electrical and plumbing are 12 to 20 percent. Flooring, drywall, paint and trim are 10 to 15 percent. Demolition, disposal and protection are 5 to 8 percent. Design, project management and permits make up the rest. Appliances sit outside all of it and are usually owner-supplied.
That distribution is why the cabinetry decision dominates a budget conversation. Moving from semi-custom to full custom on a 24 linear foot kitchen is roughly a $12,000 to $22,000 swing on its own, which is more than the entire countertop line on most projects.
What the payment schedule should look like
California sets the rules for home improvement contracts directly. Business and Professions Code section 7159.5 requires the contract to be in writing with the amount stated in dollars and cents, limits any down payment to $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract amount, whichever is less, and requires that payments after the down payment do not exceed the value of the work performed or material delivered. A schedule of payments tied to identified stages of work is part of the same section. That is the market norm here because it is the statute.
